Scene Writing Workshop

Learn the Building Blocks of Writing a Scene That Works

Live/Zoom · 2 hours · Sunday, (Date TBD) 11 AM Central · $40

Novels are made up of chapters, and chapters are compilations of scenes. If the scenes don't work, neither does the novel. Most writers can feel when a scene isn't working but can't say why. In this workshop, we will uncover the building blocks that make scenes work and practice writing those pieces.

Learn to diagnose why a scene isn't working.

In this workshop, we'll take a scene apart piece by piece, from the inciting incident through progressive complications to the turning point, crisis/decision point, and resolution. Whether you're a plotter or a discovery writer, these building blocks will change how you draft and revise.

Why learn scene writing from me?

  • I've written four novels across two sci-fi series: Against the Red Sky and Kirasu Rising
  • Against the Red Sky: Mission X is an Indie Author Project Select title in libraries across the U.S. and Canada, and part of the Indie Louisiana collection
  • Independent Book Review called it "a fast-paced, constantly engaging young adult thriller"
  • I have two successfully funded Kickstarters
  • YA panelist at Author Nation 2026 and 2026 Louisiana Book Festival
